Pink Flamingo Pool Party

Happy Sunday evening, everyone! I hope you had a fabulous weekend! Can you believe August is here already? Wow, where is this year going? My visitors left late this afternoon and I am totally exhausted. I am trying to make some rounds tonight to visit blogs but I can barely keep my eyes open.

I managed a little time in my craft room and created a pink flamingo pool party sign and invites for the Decorate to Celebrate Challenge #5 - Block, BBQ or Neighborhood Party.
The sign base is 6" x 12". I attached the waves, flamingos (aren't they adorable!) and words with foam tape to give it dimension. I welded the flamingo invites together on my gypsy.

Recipe:
  • Flamingos - Life's a Beach at 7" for the sign, 5" for the invites
  • Waves - Life's a Beach at 2"
  • Pool Party - Luau at 5"
  • Seeing Spots embossing folder - flamingos on sign
  • Swiss Dots embossing folder - invite flamingo
  • Swirls embossing folder - waves
  • Foam tape
  • DCWV paper (blue base)
  • Core'dinations Core Couture - flamingos and pool party
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful week :D

Sun, Sand & Sea Shaker Card!

Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend so far. I still have relatives in town that will be here through tomorrow afternoon, so I won't be able to get around to visit blogs until tomorrow evening. I sincerely apologize for that. I may try to sneak in some quality dashboard time tonight when everyone is asleep, but I will probably be so tired, I'll crash too :) I have this post set to upload automatically - first time I've done that so I hope it works! If you are reading this, I guess it did :P

This is a tri-fold shaker card, representing the sun, sand and sea. Shaker cards are so fun to make! If you would like to know how, click HERE for an awesome video from Erika of Crafty Sprouts, or HERE for an awesome tutorial from Georgiana of Carson's Creations. Both are easy to follow and will show you exactly how to make your own shaker card.
To represent the sun, I used gold glass beads, for the sea I used clear glass beads and a seahorse and starfish, and I used real sand for the sand. I cut the circles in the DCWV Tahiti Stack paper with my Gypsy and punched the edge with a EK Success punch. The trees are from Life's a beach and there were two palm trees but I just used the base of one and added the leaves of the other to the top with foam tape to give dimension. I flipped the image and made one for the other side. Sun, sea and sand were cut from Plantain Schoolbook, and I welded the shadows together on my Gypsy. The Aloha is a stamp from K Andrew's Splashtastic Summer set (click HERE to purchase your own set). The tag is a Spellbinders Nestabilities die.

I am entering the card in the following challenges:

  • Crafty Spouts - Shake, Shake, Shake Your Card
  • Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge - Circles
  • Whimsical Wednesday Challenge #16 - Fun With Folds
  • Paper Cutz Challenge #102 - Under the Sea

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I will be around to see all of your amazing creations as soon as I can and I look forward to it! Have a great weekend :D

Smooth Sailing and A Very Special Thanks :)

Happy Friday, bloggers! Wow, the weekend is here already! How did that happen?  I hope you have fun plans for this last weekend in July :)
I am suffering from major challenge withdrawal this week. I can't seem to get caught up enough to enter all the wonderful challenges out there. So many challenges...so little time :) I do have a card I tried to work to fit the criteria of a few.

  • Wall Decor and More - ship
  • Tim Holtz Broken China distress ink - inked all edges and for the stamp
  • Swiss dots embossing folder for the ship
  • Swirls embossing folder for the water
  • Utee Emobssing Powder - heat embossed on the smooth sailing stamp for a clear, glossy sheen

  • Hobby Lobby ribbon
  • iRock for crystals
I am entering the card in the following challenges:
Now to my very special thanks. Everyone has certain friends/followers that stand out for different reasons. One of my standouts is Sherrie, of Sherrie Scraps With Passion. Sherrie was one of the very first blogs I followed when I started this wonderful blog adventure in mid-March. Her blog was new at the time - just a month old - but her projects were and still are absolutely amazing and so creative and oh my gosh, incredibly inspiring. I was literally blown away by her talent. I wanted to craft like her! I was so honored when someone of her caliber followed me! And then ten days after I started blogging, she gifted me with my very first award - the Versatile Blogger award! Wow, I can't tell you how absolutely thrilled I was! I literally danced around my craft room! A blog award! Me!

Fast forward a few months and I am now totally addicted to this glorious world of blogging. I can't remember what I did before I discovered it. And then one of my icons (as I like to think of her!) Sherrie gifts me with three more special blog awards! WOW! Even though tomorrow is National Dance Day, I was pirouetting around the craft room! THANK YOU so much Sherrie! You don't know how much this means to me! I am honored and excited and so thankful!
I am passing along all three awards to two very special people who have inspired and uplifted me and continue to do so on a daily basis. They are coming right back at you, Sherrie, because you so deserve all the awards that come your way! (Please don't feel like you need to repost them again, just know how much I sincerely appreciate and admire you!) I am also passing them to Brenda of Creativity is Only a State of Mind because her talent and creativity and guidance and kindness are all of the characteristics I strive to encompass as a blogger. She is such an inspiring role model and a wonderful friend! I sincerely hope you will visit both of these amazing women to see their talent firsthand. I guarantee you will not be disappointed :D

Thanks so much for stopping by tonight and I hope you have a wonderful, fun, safe weekend :D

Sweet Card for Two Challenges

Happy Thursday, everyone! I can't believe the weekend is almost here. The week flew by! I can't seem to get caught up. I am trying to get around to visit, but I have family coming this weekend so I'm working on getting the house cleaned and laundry done. I haven't even had very much time to spend in my craft room this week, and prospects don't look good for the weekend :O So many challenges and I am having withdrawal! Waa!

I did manage about an hour in there today. The challenge this week at Cooking With Cricut is to use a bunny, at FCCB use a melon and at Queen of My Craftroom use Create a Critter. My thought with this card is a bunny who stumbles upon a ripe, juicy melon patch.
Materials:
  • My Mind's Eye paper stack - base of card
  • DCWV My Playtime paper stack
  • Create a Critter - bunny at 3"; bird at 1/2"
  • Camp Out - sign at 2 1/2"
  • October 31 - vines at 4 1/2"
  • George and Basic Shapes - used ovals for watermelon at 3/4"
  • Plantain Schoolbook - letters on sign
  • Tim Holtz Distressed Lines embossing folder - watermelon
  • Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pine Needles - watermelon
  • Amy Chomas Glitter Pins - verbiage on the sign (watermelon u-pik)
  • K Andrew Food For Thought Stamps - Sweet (click HERE to purchase your own stamps)
  • iRock - crystals
  • White gel pen
  • The Twinery - green twine

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful evening :D

My Thoughts on Blog Awards and Many Thanks :)

Every time I am gifted with a blog award, I am amazed and excited and so thankful! There are so many fabulous blogs out there and the fact that someone picks mine to single out and pass along an award to is such an honor. I sincerely try to never take anything for granted. The fact that my peers choose me is something that I truly appreciate. I don't care if I've received the award before, the fact that someone thinks I am deserving is an honor that truly humbles me. I want each and every one of you who takes the time to pass along an award to me, or to stop by to visit or to leave a comment, or to follow me, I appreciate you so much!

There are six awesome friends I need to thank today for passing along awards to me. They are each amazingly talented crafters and such wonderful friends! I LOVE visiting them and love reading their comments when they visit me! If you haven't stopped by their blogs, you don't know what you are missing - they are fabulous! So a huge THANKS, in the order they were received, to:
  • Shen of My Curious Crafts for the Circut-tastic Award, the Stinkin' Cute Award, A Thing of Beauty Award, The Irresistably Sweet Blogger Award, the Best Friend Blogger Award, and The Stylish Blogger Award
  • Karen of Crafted With Love by Karen for the Stinkin' Cute Award, the Cricut-tastic Award, The Thing of Beauty Award and The Best Friend Blogger Award
  • Pam of Craftycards4u2 for The Best Friend Blogger Award, The Cricut-tastic Award, The Stinkin Cute Blog Award and the Stylish Blogger Award
  • Amy of Amy's Crafting Space for the Cricut-tastic Award
  • Jenni of My Lollipop Garden for the Cricut-tastic Award
  • Amy of Redheaded Crafter for the Stylish Blogger Award

The hardest part of getting an award to me is passing it along, because there are so many talented crafters out there. But this time, it wasn't hard at all. I am giving all six to the wonderful friends who have honored me with awards over the last month. I am not doing this just because they gave me awards, but because they are each ones I would have chosen anyway! They are amazing and phenomenal and the greatest friends! I want them to know how much I appreciate them and I would be so happy if you would visit each one to see their incredible talent for yourselves! They are (in alphabetical order):
  • Amanda of Tropic Krafts
  • Amy of Amy's Crafting Space
  • Amy of  Redheaded Crafter

Ice Skater Card Tutorial

Happy Wednesday, everyone and thanks for stopping by! I finally have the tutorial ready for the ice skater card I made for Day 1 of the Christmas in July Blog Hop this past weekend. Thank you so much for the response to the card! It is actually a lot easier to make than it looks :)

SUPPLIES:
  1. One sheet of cardstock (the thicker the better)
  2. Decorative paper
  3. Scoreboard
  4. Bone folder
  5. Paper cutter
  6. Wire – around 12 gauge
  7. Winter Woodland cart (or whatever you want to use to decorate card)
  8. X-acto knife
  9. Circle punch
  10. Button
  11. Twine
  12. Terrifically tacky tape
  13. Glue/tape
  14. Foam dots

DIRECTIONS:
    1. Cut the cardstock in half, so you will have a sheet measuring 6" x 12"
    2. Score the cardstock at:
            a. 1.5"
            b. 3"
            c. 5"
            d. 7"
            e. 9.5"
    3. Fold the cardstock mountain fold at 1.5", valley at 3", mountain at 5", valley
at 7" and mountain at 9.5". This will form the base of the step card.
    4. Cut decorative paper (I used My Mind's Eye O Christmas Tree stack) into
        strips of:
            a. 1.5" x 6"
            b. 2" x 6"
            c. 2.5" x 6"
    5. Adhere the strips to the front of the step card. You could also cover the
inside or just use one decorative piece of paper for the step card, but I
found this to be a bit sturdier, especially with all the cuts I added to it.
    6. Flip the card over, and on the bottom of the first 1 1/2" fold, draw a
box that measures 1/4" wide, starting 1/2" from the bottom of the
card and 1/2" from either side.
     7. Use your paper cutter or x-acto knife to cut out the box. I used the
paper cutter because it cuts straight lines, just in case mine were a
bit off. The width of this box is important. You want a small foam
dot to move easily across the entire length of the box. It it doesn't
flow smoothly, cut a slightly bigger box.
     8. With your cutter or x-acto, cut a slit directly into the fold above the
box you just cut. You want it to be the same length as the box:
        1/2" from either side.
    9. When you flip the card back over, it should look like this:
    10. Cut the ice skater from Winter Woodlands at 4".
    11. Cut a piece of 12 gauge wire at 5 1/2 " and another piece about 2".
    12. Fold the 5 1/2" piece of wire in half and adhere to the back of the
skater's straight leg. You can hide the wire behind the edge of her
skate. I used Terrifically Tacky tape to adhere the wire because it
has a strong bond. You could use another strong glue or even hot
glue. Hot glue and I don't get along too well. I use when I have to,
but no matter how careful I am, I always burn my fingers :P
    13. Attach the 2" piece of wire to her outstretched leg, to make it sturdy.
    14. Punch or cut a circle about the same size as the button you selected
for the moving mechanism, and adhere it to the bottom wire. Again,
I used Terrifically Tacky tape. You may need to slide the skater into
the slit to see exactly where to attach the circle. You want the circle
to line up with the 1/4" box we cut a bit earlier.

    15. Thread twine through the button.
    16. Punch or cut another circle and adhere it to the back of the button.
    17. Attach a small foam dot to the back of the button. I used Recollections
Foam Adhesive Circles in assorted sizes and used the smallest one.
    18. Thread the skater through the slit in the paper.
    19. Remove backing of foam dot, and making sure the skater is level with
the edge of the paper, bond the two circles together with the foam dot.
    20. Give it a test - slide the button and make sure she skates along the edge.
If not, you can adjust the bond of the two circles pretty easily.
    21. I used a piece of sparkly blue paper and freehand cut the edge to make
it look like she is skating across frozen water.
    22. Decorate the card as desired.
I would love to show you how to animate the photo but that is a whole lesson in Photoshop and I really don't have time to open that can of worms! I used Photoshop Elements 9. If you've never used it, don't be intimidated. I have used it for a number of years, but I've never taken a class. I taught myself.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial! If you make a card from either this tutorial, or my interactive Owl card, please link it to Mr. Linky below. I'd love to come see it!

    Interactive Owl Card Tutorial

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I have my first of two tutorials ready to go. This one is from the Operation Owl Blog Hop this past weekend. I am going to show you how to make the interactive feature on the card: when you turn the lollipop, a new sentiment appears.
I made my card a little bigger (6" x 6") so I could include all the elements.
    SUPPLIES:
    1. Gypsy (can use an x-acto knife or punches)
    2. George and Basic Shapes (or another cart that has shape images)
    3. Paper Cutter
    4. X-acto knife
    5. Paper (I used DCWV The Playtime Stack)
    6. Stamps you want to use (I used K Andrew's Amazing You stamps)
    7. Tape gun or glue
    8. Foam dots
    9. Foam tape
    10. Corner rounder punch (optional)
    11. Circle punch
    12. Embellishments
      1. Cricut Cuts
      2. Ribbon
      3. Gems/Bling
    DIRECTIONS:

    1. On your Gypsy, create a box that measures 5" x 5".
    2. Insert a rectangle inside the box that measures 2" x 1/2" and is 1" from
the top and centered in the middle. You may need to adjust the size of
the rectangle to fit the stamps you want to use.
    3. Center 1/2" below the rectangle a circle that measures 1/2".
    4. Cut your image. It should look like this:
    5. Attach the 5" x 5" square to the base of your card with foam tape. The
foam tape is thinner than foam dots, which is why you want to use it.
    6. With your x-acto knife, carefully cut out the rectangle and circle on the
card base. You could do this with your Gypsy, too, but I wasn't sure where
I wanted to position the 5" x 5" paper on my card base.
    7. With your paper cutter (or Gypsy) cut a 3 1/2" square.
    8. With a corner round punch, round the corners.
    9. Place the 3 1/2" square behind the front of the card, centering it behind
        the 5" x 5" square.
    10. You want to make sure that the 3 1/2" square does not show around the
edges, which is why I used a corner rounder. Since the 5" x 5" paper is
attached to the card base, the only edges that you have to worry about
are the top and right side. (In the picture below, the 5" x 5" square hasn't
been adhered to the card base yet. I just wanted to show you how to
          center the 3 1/2" square behind the 5" x 5" one.)
    11. Punch or cut a circle that measures 3/4", enough to cover the round hole.
    12. Attach a round foam dot to the back of the circle. I use the largest size of
round foam dots, and you want to make sure it is thicker than the foam
tape you used to adhere the 5" x 5" square to the card base.
    13. Carefully holding tight to the 3 1/2" square flip the card over.
    14. Attach the circle with foam through the round hole. This will be your
          turning mechanism.
    15. Test your turning mechanism and make sure the back square does not
show around the edges. Also, you don't want the hole in the 5" x 5"
paper much bigger than your foam dot, just enough for it to turn. It if
is too large, the back square might shift. If you use a small foam dot,
you should adjust the size of the hole you cut into the 5" x 5" paper.
    16. Line up your stamp in the box and stamp your sentiment. I flipped
the card around and stamped upside down so the foam circle didn't
          get in the way.
    17. Rotate the back square a quarter turn and stamp your next sentiment.
    18. Continue until you have your four sentiments stamped.
    19. Decorate card as desired.
NOTE: You may want your rectangle where the stamps show through in the center of the paper. You can move it where ever you want, as long as you make sure the back 3 1/2" square does not show around the edges when you rotate it.

I hope this was easy enough to understand. It would have been much easier making a video tutorial but again, I don't have a decent video camera. I will have the tutorial for the ice skater card from Day 1 of the Christmas in July Blog Hop up either later today or tomorrow at the latest. If you make one of these interactive cards, please let me know so I can come see it!

Also, is anyone else having trouble with posts not showing up in the dashboard? For the last few days, I have to publish my posts three or four times before they finally show up...so frustrating!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day :)

Sleeping Peacefully Tonight Because of You

Happy Monday evening, bloggers! I have a card to enter into Getting Cricky's Simply Sunday Challenge - Freedom Isn't Free. I think I still had the Operation Owl Blog Hop on my mind when I made this ;)
The background paper is from My Mind's Eye Love Notes stack. For the strip of red paper, I used the Tim Holtz distressed lines embossing folder and for the blue, a Cuttlebug star border and EK Success punch. The red stripe and blue star paper are my weird take on an abstract flag :P The owl was cut from Create a Critter at 3". I used the seeing spots folder on the owl, argyle on the tree branch and I'm not sure what the name of the one I used on the leaves. The twine is from The Twinery. I used a nestabilities die to cut the tag for the sentiment, which is from K Andrew's awesome Freedom Isn't Free set. $1 from every stamp set sold benefits the Intrepid Fallen Heroes for those who are seriously wounded/disfigured while serving overseas service. Click HERE to purchase your own set. I actually combined two stamps. I taped over the other words on the American Solider stamp because I liked how this sentiment sounded for this card.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I promise to have those tutorials up soon :)

Christmas in July Blog Hop Day 3!

Welcome and thank you for joining us for Day 3 of our Christmas in July Blog Hop! This is a three day hop starting July 22 and ending today July 24. You should have arrived here from Sylvia. If you just happened to stumble upon this hop, please be sure to go back to Elaine's blog ExpressionsByElaine so you don't miss any of the wonderful projects we have to share.

Be sure to visit & follow all the blogs to be entered for the Grand Prize! After you have stopped at all the blogs head back to the beginning blog Elaine @
ExpressionsByElaine and leave your name in the inlinkz.

For my project today, I made a card with a removable ornament.
The paper is from My Mind's Eye Christmas stack. I cut seasons greetings from Base Camp from the same paper as the background. I adhered white Core'dinations Core Couture paper behind the words and inked the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink. I attached the words with foam. I used a nestabilities die to cut out the center shape. Since I used the largest die I had, I freehand cut around the shape to make a border and attached it with tiny bits of foam. I also attached the inside background paper with foam for more dimension. For the reindeer, I cut him from the Christmas cart first in grungeboard and then paper so he would be sturdy. He is attached with a small dot of removable tape so that he can be pulled off the card and used as an ornament. I added a ribbon around his neck, a crystal for his eye and pearls.
I have blog candy! Since this is a three day hop and I will have a project for each day, I will add a little something to the candy each day. Today I have added three rolls of Christmas-theme ribbon to the Bubble-A-Bilities stickers and the set of Cuttlebug Asterisks dies.

All you have to do to be entered in the drawing is:
    1. Be a follower and
    2. Leave a comment on this post. Since this is a three day hop, if you leave a comment after each new project, you will have three chances to win! I will combine all the comments from the three days to select one winner via random.org on Monday, July 25th.
Also, I am having a 500 Follower Cricut Cart giveaway! Click HERE to enter for a chance to win a brand new Picturesque cart!

Your next stop on the Christmas in July Blog Hop is Amber. Don't forget to visit ElaineExpressionsByElaine once you have hopped along and enter your name for a chance at the grand prize!

The Design Team term is coming to an end and the DT just wants to be sure to let Kristal know how much she has meant to everyone over the last 3 months. If you are interested in participating, you can add your card to the link below and mail them to the address here.

If you've hopped along from Kathy T then you are in the right place!! If you are just joining me from your dashboard, or reading this via email, please be sure to CLICK HERE to start at the beginning with Brenda's blog (I wouldn't want you to miss a THING!!)...

We have some Blog Hop CANDY for one lucky WINNER!!!
Amy Chomas has graciously donated a mini gel pen set and holder
as our grand prize and some of the ladies have also added to the pot (surprise package).
You must go to each blog and leave a comment (following would be nice also) to qualify for the grand prize.  Brenda will be picking one lucky winner on Wednesday, July 27th.  So make sure to go back here and see if you won.

I am so honored that the Design Team asked me to participate in this hop today. Getting Cricky is one of the first blogs I followed when I joined the blogging community a little over four months ago. I soon learned that from Kristal I could expect heartfelt posts delivering a strong, inspiring message that would either make me laugh or cry - sometimes both. Whatever the message, I am always moved deeply. I don't know how she does it, but each post seems to speak directly to me, and when I need it most. She has a very special gift that only God could grant and I am truly thankful to have found her blog. I am inspired by her daily.

For my thank you card to Kristal, I couldn't decide which phrase from her six awesome stamp sets to use, so I created this card to use four from Amazing You. $1 from every one of these sets sold benefits the Doorways for Women & Families (an organization helping those escape and survive domestic violence). Awesome stamps - awesome cause! You can feel so good purchasing Kristal's stamps knowing a portion of the proceeds benefit people in need. Click HERE to purchase your own set of these fabulous stamps!
The background paper is from DCWV Playtime stack. I used Give a Hoot to cut the tree at 3" and the owl at 2". I embossed the light green background of the tree with the distressed lines embossing folder. I embossed the top layer with Swiss dots and adhered it with foam. The butterfly is from Sentiments and embossed with Swiss dots, the sun is from Indie Art and the lollipop is from Birthday Bash. I cut out one of the clouds from the paper and adhered it with foam and then cut the box that frames the sentiment. This is an interactive card, so when you give the lollipop a twirl, a new sentiment is revealed!

Here is the inside of the card. I used a stamp from her Fashionable Friends set! A portion of the proceeds from this set benefits Cancer Angels. Click HERE to purchase this wonderful set of stamps.

Before I send this card off, I am entering it into the Cooking With Cricut Challenge #43 - Lollipops

I have blog candy! I have a set of Owl ribbon just like what I used on the inside of the card, as well as a three pack of Tim Holtz Distress Stickles! Love this stuff :)
