Challenges are Just Opportunities Disguised

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I hope you are having a great day! I was so excited the other day when I was looking for something in my craft room and came across my old Provo Craft Sew Crafty Mini sewing machine, circa 2003! I couldn't wait to use it! It only makes straight-line stitches but it looks so good on cards. I completely forgot I had it...it's been probably five years since I used it. Of course I couldn't remember how it worked, so I had to dig through my file of old instructions. But I found them and surprisingly, the batteries still worked! Once I used it, I remembered why I packed it away...the thing is so darn hard to thread! And the thread broke three times :( Don't look too closely at the stitching or you will see the places where it broke! It bothers me that it isn't perfect, but I didn't want to waste this pretty sparkly leaf paper.
I used paper from Cloud 9 Seasonal Stack for the top and DCWV for the rest. The flower is cut from Flower Shoppe - so love this cart! And the swirl is from Picturesque. The sentiment is from K Andrew Designs Positive Thoughts stamp set. Click HERE to purchase your own set!

I used this week's Celebrate the Occasion sketch for the design of the card.

Life is Grand!

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope your week is starting out great! I have a card to enter into a few challenges today :)
The theme of this card is travel/relaxing vacation. Nothing says relaxing to me like a tropical drink by the ocean! I love this Tiki hut from Luau. The one thing I don't like about the lite carts is the lack of layers. This one had two: the hut and the roof. I didn't want the tiki mask or drink to be the same color so I cut it three times to get the different colors. I used a hole punch for the round balls on the front. The flower is from Flower Shoppe, which I LOVE! All of the flowers on this cart are so beautiful! I will definitely use this one often. I used a K Andrew Designs stamp from her Positive Thoughts set. $1 from each set benefits Storefront Shelter (Homeless shelter for children and youth). Click HERE to purchase your own set of these awesome stamps!

Recipe:
  • K Andrew Positive Thoughts Stamp Set - Life is Grand
  • K & Company Paper
  • Luau - Tiki hut at 3 1/1"
  • Create a Critter - Palm tree at 4 1/2"
  • Flower Shoppe - tropical flower and leaves
  • Distressed Lines Embossing Folder - hut roof
  • Tim Holtz Wood Grain Embossing Folder - tree trunk
  • Damask Embossing Folder - palm leaves
  • Colorbok Chalk - leaves and edge of flowers
  • Foam Tape
I am entering it into the following challenges:
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a great evening :)

Simply Sunday Challenge - Winged Things

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend! It's time for another fun Simply Sunday challenge at Getting Cricky! The theme this week is Winged Things.
For this card, I used my new Elegant Edges cartridge and Fancy Pants Design "It's The Little Things" paper from my friend Sherrie of Sherrie Scraps With Passion! Isn't the paper gorgeous? The flowers are from the same line. Thank you again, Sherrie! This cart has such fun shapes, I had a hard time choosing which to use. I used my Gypsy to weld two shadows together to create the base of the card, cut at 5". I attached the frame with foam tape to give dimension. The swirl is from Sophisticated, cut at 1 1/2" and also attached with foam. I added a strip of pearls and pearls on the corners and the flower centers.
I used a sheet of notepaper from the "It's the Little Things" paper stack for the sentiment and cut it with a Spellbinders Nestabilities Die. I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Walnut Distress Ink and attached it with foam tape. The sentiment, one of my favorites, was created with the awesome mix and match K Andrew Winged Things stamp set. I am entering the card in the Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge - School Papers.

I love this stamp set so much, I had to create two cards!
For this card, I used beautiful handmade paper that my friend Diana of DL.ART sent to me! This paper is so gorgeous! The red paper has raised hearts and for the light pink, I embossed it with the hearts Cuttlebug folder. Thanks again, Diana! The red shiny paper which I used as the base and for the heart is from my friend Shen of My Curious Crafts! It is so sparkly and beautiful! Thanks again, Shen! I also used ribbon that my friend Karen of Little Scrap Pieces sent to me! She makes and hand dyes this ribbon and it is so awesome! Thanks again Karen!
I cut the wings from Gypsy Wanderings at 2 1/2" first on cardboard. The heart is from George and Basic Shapes and I added a strip of crystals.
I used Spellbinders Nestabilities dies for the sentiment and added a few gems for decoration. I am entering the card in the Whimsical Wednesday Challenge - Inspiring Words.

All of the stamps I used today are from the K Andrew Designs Winged Things set. At least $1 from the sale of every set directly benefits the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Buy these stamps with pride, knowing not only are you getting a great product, but you are helping those in need!

Click HERE to purchase your own set of these amazing stamps and to see her entire fabulous line of stamps!!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Don't forget to stop by Getting Cricky and check out the other design team projects and then link your own project with a "Winged Things" theme!!

Decorate to Celebrate Guest Designer!

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I am so excited to be a guest designer again for Rhonda and Amy's awesome blog, Decorate to Celebrate! Decorate to Celebrate is a super-fun challenge blog dedicated to showing off decorations for every celebration. I seem to get to a rut just making cards, so this blog forces me to get creative and think outside the card box :)

The theme for today's challenge is: dum dum da dum..................WEDDING, BRIDAL SHOWER, or ENGAGEMENT PARTY!
My decorations are for a wedding party: bride and groom gift boxes, a paper lantern and a flower bouquet that can be used as a table decoration.
I cut the lantern from Tie the Knot and used the fit to page option, which made it 11 3/4". The paper is from the DCWV Luxury Stack. A whole bunch of these hanging around the party, possibly with lights would be so pretty!
The bride and groom gift bags were also cut from Tie the Knot, using Core Couture paper. The pearl decoration is from a K & Company sticker set that I found on clearance at Joann.
For the bouquet, I cut the base from Tie the Knot at 7". The pearl and diamond sticker is from the same K & Company sticker set. The flowers are from Forever Young, and I cut them at 2". I attached them to white lollipop sticks and added a pearl for the center and a ribbon bow. I used DCWV Luxury Stack paper for this as well.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and thanks again Amy and Rhonda for letting me be part of your fabulous blog! Don't forget to make your own decorations for a wedding, bridal shower or engagement party and link up at Decorate to Celebrate (http://decoratetocelebrate.blogspot.com) I can't wait to see what you create :)

You Are Brilliant!

Click HERE for the Getting Cricky Blog Hop
**There is still time to enter for a chance to win a set of K Andrew stamps!**

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend! I can not seem to get caught up. I feel like I am three steps behind on everything. Plus, I'm trying to update the look of my blog and it is taking me much longer than I thought. I am sorry I haven't been around much to comment...I will work on that soon, I promise!
I do have a project to enter into a few challenges. I saw this image on Campin Critters and knew I wanted to use it for something. It is a camping journal, but I adapted it as a back to school journal so a child can document all the important events throughout the school year. I used my Gypsy to change the wording from "Camp" to "School". I used K Andrew stamps from her Fashionable Friends set, You Are Brilliant, to remind the student how smart they are! $1 from every one of these stamp sets sold directly benefits Doorways for Women & Families (an organization helping those escape and survive domestic violence). Buy these stamps with pride knowing you are getting an awesome product and helping those in need!
I have left the inside pages blank for now, but you could add stamped sentiments or images, places for school pictures, the possibilities are endless! Plus, you can add pages as needed to the journal. I used a Nestabilities die for the clasp and attached it with velcro so it holds the book closed.

Recipe
  • K Andrew Stamp - Amazing You - Click HERE to purchase your own set
  • Campin Critters - journal at 7 3/4"
  • A Child's Year - crayons at 1"
  • DCWV - letter paper and pencil paper, rest from my stash
  • Hobby Lobby Star Ribbon and Orange Ribbon
  • Spellbinders Nestabilities Die - clasp
  • Velcro - to hold book closed
I am entering the journal in the following challenges:

Tonight on the Ustream, you saw previews for THREE brand new sets!! Weren't they wonderful???

For my first project, I'd like to share the "Coffee & Tea For You & Me" set...

benefits Wayside House for Women

I know this is a coffee and tea set of stamps, but it has other non-beverage sentiments that are equally fabulous! For this easel birthday card, I used paper from the DCWV Playtime stack. I cut out the window from Elegant Edges and then cut a frame to frame the opening. The bird is from Sophisticated, and I stamped her with Ranger Perfect Medium and then heat embossed her with Holographic Embossing Powder to give her a nice sparkly sheen. I attached her with foam tape. The banner is also from Sophisticated, also attached with foam tape. I welded the base of the banner together on my Gypsy. The flowers on the banner are from a punch in my stash and I added small pearl brads. To show you how versatile these mix and match stamps are, I used "have a" and then for "great", I simply taped over the word "day" that followed, and added "birthday". I inked the stamps and then removed the tape to get this awesome sentiment! I stamped it on a the same design paper and cut another frame to surround it. I then lined up the paper so it matched the base and attached it with foam tape. I cut a couple of flowers from the paper and adhered them with foam tape to give dimension. I added pearl brads to hold the easel in place and added gems with my iRock.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:
For my second project, I'd like to share the "Winged Things" set...

benefits E. Glaser Pediatric AIDS
Foundation

I decided to make a colorful wall hanging for this project. I used paper from My Mind's Eye (orange); Core Couture (red); K & Company (base of butterfly); and DCWV Performance Stack (the deep red, almost black). I cut the flower from Forever Young at 7" in cardboard first to give it some strength.
The butterfly is from Picturesque and I cut it at 2 1/2". I added pearls and only adhered it to the paper in the center so the wings look like they are in flight.
I used a Spellbinders Nestabilities die to cut the tags, and the clips are curtain hangers that I had in my stash. This set has so many awesome sayings, I had a hard time choosing which to use! I decided upon "If there were no change, there would be no butterflies". I also used the pretty butterfly stamp from this set. I added crystals with my iRock and inked all the edges with Tim Holtz Fired Brick Distress Ink.

For my third project, I'd like to share the "Sympathetic Sayings" set...
benefits Camp Good Days & Special Times

For me, one of the hardest cards to make is a sympathy card. It is hard to know just what to say to someone when they have experienced a loss. This stamp set takes care of that with some absolutely beautiful sentiments.
I used paper from the DCWV Natural Stack for this one. I embossed the white paper with a Cuttlebug embossing folder (I don't actually know the name of this one, but I love it...it came in a set). I cut the paper into three strips and adhered it to a slightly darker pearl paper. I then adhered that to a light gold color. I used a Cuttlebug die to cut the tag and adhered it with Hobby Lobby Ribbon, and used the sentiment "Time heals all things". I added some pearl bling to the bottom of the card.

Okay, I know this was a long post, but if you are still with me...I have blog candy!! Though I love all of the K Andrew stamp sets, this one is quite possibly my favorite - it has so many awesome, fun quotes. So how would you like to win your very own set of Splashtastic Summer stamps?
All you have to do for a chance to win this fun stamp set is:
  1. Be a Follower
  2. Leave a comment telling me your favorite place to visit/vacation in the summer

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you week is starting off great! The weather is beautiful here today...sunny, 76 degrees, low humidity. The air conditioner is off for the first time in months and the windows are open, letting the fresh air in! Ahhhh :)
Challenge #7 this week at Cricut 360 is Old West. For this card, I used the Old West cart, which I think I have used only once before. I am so in love with this ribbon! Thank you so much, Karen - you are awesome! :) I also used a K Andrew stamp from her Fashionable Friends set. $1 from every set goes to Cancer Angels to help stage 4 level cancer patients. Cancer Angels gives at least 95% of all monies raised to those in need. Click HERE to purchase your own set.

Recipe

Simply Sunday Challenge - Favors/Treats/Party

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend! I am so excited to share with you my first Simply Sunday Project as a member of the Getting Cricky Design Team! This week, the theme is Favors/Treats/Party.
My favors are for a Queen for a Day birthday party. Every woman should be queen for at least one day, right?! I made a magic wand and crown using sentiments from Kristal's Positive Thoughts stamp set. $1 from each set sold benefits Storefront Shelter, a homeless shelter for children and youth. What an awesome cause. I feel so good using her stamps - not only do I LOVE them, but they benefit those in need. Click HERE to purchase your own set!
For the magic wand, I used Core Couture paper (so sparkly and perfect for a queen!). I cut the pretty queen from Once Upon A Princess at 3". I added strips of glossy accents to her hair to give it some dimension and blue googly eyes. The wand is actually a drink stirrer that I purchased on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $1.25 for a dozen in assorted colors. I knew they would come in handy some day! I added three different types of Hobby Lobby ribbon and used my iRock to adhere the sparkling gems befitting a queen. I used a Spellbinders Nestabilities die to cut the shape for the sentiment, and used "A Queen is not afraid to fail" from Positive Thoughts. I inked the edges with Colorbok pink chalk.
The crown is also from Once Upon A Princess and created with Core Couture paper. I added strips of decorative ribbon and used my irock to attach the gems.
I used three different Positive Thoughts stamps: "Today is your day" for the birthday queen; "Attitude is everything" because a queen definitely needs an attitude; and "Whimsy is essential" because gosh darn it, it is! I used the same Nestibilities die for the sentiments, inked the edges with Colorbok pink chalk and adhered them with foam tape.
