Simply Sunday Challenge - Fantasy Land!

Hi everyone and happy Sunday!! I hope you are having a fabulous weekend!! It's time for another super-fun Simply Sunday Challenge at Getting Cricky!! The challenge this week is Fantasy Land! Create a card, layout, home decor item...any project with a fantasy theme!!

For my project, I created (big surprise!) a mermaid step card!! I cut Ariel from Disney's Dreams Come True, but I changed her coloring. I attached all of the layers with foam tape. The paper for her tail is from the DCWV Le Tres Chic stack. The paper I used for the base and the water is from Fancy Pants. I cut the waves from Life's a Beach and inked them with Broken China and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. I attached each layer with foam tape to give the waves dimension. I added waves to the top of the card so it looks like she is in the water. The seaweed is from Life's a Beach, also attached with foam tape. I added some bling to the mermaid: a gem for her belly ring, and a pearl necklace, bracelet and flower barrette.

This is the first time I've made this type of step card with a prominent center. I didn't have the measurements when I was in my craft room so I played around until I came up with a format that worked.

I'm not sure where the paper I used for the tail fin is from...I had some pieces in my stash. I think it might be from the DCWV All About Girls stack. It is so pretty and sparkly...I took a close-up so you could see the texture.

The sign is from Camp Out. I cut it on kraft paper and used Walnut Distress Ink around the edges. "Tales of a mermaid" is from K Andrew Designs Pirate Tales and Fish Scales stamp set:

Miss Ewe and Owly Hoo Stamp Set WINNER!!

Hi everyone and happy Thursday!! Wow, this week is flying by!! Before I announce the winner of the K Andrew Designs Owly Hoo stamp set, I have a project to enter into a few challenges today :)

I used Tim Holtz Idea-ology Kraft Paper (thanks again, Sabrina!!) for the base of the bag and cut it from Plantin Schoolbook using my Gypsy at 7.50" x 11.77".  The yellow and orange polka dot papers are from the DWCV Mango Frost Stack. I used Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels 4 and punched a hole on each end with my Crop-a-dile. I threaded jute twine through the holes to tie the label onto the bag.

The adorable ewe is from From My Kitchen, cut at 2" and flipped. I embossed her with the Sizzex swirls embossing folder to give her a fleecy look and attached all the layers together with foam tape for dimension.

The flowers are from Plantin Schoolbook and the button centers are a Sizzex die. I added some crystal gems in the centers.

The tag is also from Plantin Schoolbook and the buttons are from the same Sizzex die. Miss Ewe is from the brand new K Andrew Designs All About Animal stamps!! There are so many awesome sentiments on this stamp set!! I love them and couldn't wait to use them:

Click HERE to purchase your own stamps or to see the entire line of K Andrew Designs stamps!! I am entering this in the following challenges:
  1. Cooking With Cricut Challenge #70 - Anything but a card, use yellow and polka dots
  2. Paper Playtime Challenge #65 - Tag or use a tag on your project and a sentiment
  3. Die Cutting Divas Challenge #49 - Buttons, bows and/or bling

I was trying to make this fit several challenges and I kept in mind Diana's Thankful Thursday challenge at DL.Art... I used kraft paper, twine and flowers, as per her requirements, and then I got so caught up using the new stamps and the ewe, that I completely forgot the main requirement was for it to be a thank you card! So I can't enter it there...sorry, Diana!

Now to the winner of the K Andrew Designs Owly Hoo stamp set from the Getting Cricky Promo Week of Projects and U R So Sweet Blog Hop!! I want to sincerely thank all of you who stopped by - some of you every single day!! I truly appreciate each of you and I wish I could send you all a stamp set!! I also want to thank those of you that took the time to earn extra entries into the drawing!! I appreciate it so much!!

After I counted all the comments for the six days, plus all of the extra chances, there were over 600 entries!! That was a lot of cutting!! I took the name of the person plus the day the comment was left and printed them out...

And the winner is..........................................................................................................

Congratulations, Karen!! I will send you an email for your address, or you can reach me at indymermaid(at)gmail(dot)com!!

Thank you all again for following me and for leaving such sweet comments!! They mean so much to me!! Be sure to stop back by tomorrow when I will announce the winner of the paper pack and matching flowers from the Blends Join Hands Blog Hop!! :)

Decorate To Celebrate Challenge #17 - Valentine's Day Party

Hi everyone, and happy Wednesday!! It's time for another super-fun challenge at Decorate to Celebrate!! The theme this week is VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY!! Let's celebrate EVERYTHING WONDERFUL ABOUT VALENTINE'S DAY with your table decorations, party banners, pennants, yard signs, cupcakes, party favors and more!!

For my project, I created a Valentine mobile of 3-D hearts and a birdcage. I had the hardest time taking a picture of this!

All of the paper is from My Mind's Eye. I used Fired Brick and Walnut Distress Inks to ink the edges. I used 6 lb. fishing wire to attach the hearts and birdcage to the top hanger.

The hearts are from Gypsy Wanderings and I added slits so I could fit two together for a 3-D look. "You are loved" is from K Andrew Designs Amazing You stamp set.

The birdcage is a Tim Holtz Die and I cut it first with grungeboard to make it sturdy. I threaded lace through the top, and the lace was white, so I inked it with Tea Dye Distress Ink. I added a strip of crystals and flowers from Flower Shoppe. The pearls and the clear tag are Tim Holtz products. "Sweet" is from K Andrew Designs Winged Things stamp set. Click HERE to purchase your own set!!

Now it's your turn! Head over to Decorate to Celebrate and link up your Valentine Party Decorations! I can't wait to see what you create :)

Now for my Hop project!! I couldn't decide whether to use a dog or a cat for my Valentine card, so I made one of each!

I used paper from The Paper Studio So Sweet stack. I cut the bases from Elegant Edges and used my Gypsy to weld them together, and embossed them with Swiss Dots. In the heart cutout in the bottom right corner, I used the "kisses" stamp from K Andrew Designs Owly Hoo stamp set (click HERE to purchase your own set!) and filled it in with Glossy Accents. The doggie and kitty are from Sweethearts, cut at 2 1/2". I made little boxes for them to sit in because they double as necklaces!

When you open the card, a heart pops up saying "Be My Valentine"! I welded the letters and the heart from Sweethearts on my Gypsy. The large heart is from Gypsy Wanderings, and I embossed them with the Swiss Dots folder as well.

I cut two hearts in three different sizes from Gypsy Wanderings and embossed them with Swiss Dots. I attached them together with foam tape for dimension. "Happy Valentine's Day" is from Phrases and I embossed the white shadow with Swiss Dots. I popped the phrase up with foam dots and added Glossy Accents to the red heart. The flower is from Flower Shoppe and I added a handmade stickpin. The scalloped label is from Straight From The Nest. I used Fired Brick Distress Ink to stamp "Be mine" from K Andrew Designs Winged Things stamp set. To purchase your own set of these fabulous stamps, click HERE!

Aren't those prizes amazing??!! And, there is SURE to be more awesome CANDY along the way!! I have some, too :)

Now to my project!! I had a really hard time choosing which project to use because all of Jessica's are so gorgeous!! I decided on one she featured on her blog on February 20, 2011. See her original post HERE!

Jessica's beautiful wall hanging is actually double-sided, but I made mine one-sided. Those of you that attended the Getting Cricky U R So Sweet Blog Hop on Friday might have seen my note about finding a sale at Michaels on a bundle of 10 canvases. Well, here is project two of ten :)

I prepped this canvas the same way I did my project on Friday...I Mod Podged old sheet music to the canvas and then sponged over it with white and burnt umber paint. I printed the flag on vellum and secured it with Mod Podge. You can't tell in the picture, but you can see through to the sheet music in person. I cut the stars from George and Basic Shapes on DCWV Metallic Copper paper, scored them and popped them up with foam tape.

The circle is a Spellbinders Nestabilities die. I have a large wooden stamp with the words of America the Beautiful and I stamped that on the circle with Tim Holtz Faded Jeans Distress Ink. I inked the edges with Fired Brick Distress Ink and lightly stamped Old Paper Distress Ink over the rest of the circle. I hand-cut the envelope, ran it through the Cuttlebug with the Stars Embossing folder and inked it with the same two distress inks. I attached a grommet with my Crop-a-Dile and threaded ribbon through, including some all-American blue jean ribbon :) I added some ivory tulle behind and attached the circle with foam tape.

For the three sentiments, I printed out a border from Elegant Edges and attached two together with foam tape for dimension. I stamped America the Beautiful on them as well and inked the paper with Old Paper Distress Ink. Another reason I was excited to recreate this project was the chance to use my K Andrew Designs Freedom Isn't Free stamp set...the very first K Andrew Designs stamps that I owned!! All three sentiments plus "Freedom" on the circle are from this stamp set!

I have BLOG CANDY!! All you have to do to be eligible to win this beautiful paper package and matching flowers is:

For my project, I created a Valentine wall hanging! When I decided what I wanted to make and went to Michaels to pick up a canvas, they had a sale on a bundle of ten so...you will be seeing lots more wall hangings from me in the near future!! Plus, I had so much fun doing this one :)
I used Mod Podge and attached an old sheet of music to the frame. Once it dried, I sponged on white paint and then burnt umber. The letters are chipboard and I colored them with Fired Brick Distress Ink and then stamped over them in black with a music note stamp. The border behind the frame is a Spellbinders Borderabilities. The frame is two sizes of Spellbinders Lacy Squares and attached with foam. I embossed the white paper with the hearts Cuttlebug folder.
The heart and wings are Spellbinders dies, and I cut them out three times and attached the layers together with foam for dimension. I added glossy accents to the heart and a piece of organza behind the frame. The flowers are Spellbinders Sprial Blossom One, and I cut them out in eco-friendly white felt and then dabbed over them with Worn Lipstck, Tea Dye and Tattered Rose Distress Ink. "I'll always love you" is of course from Owly Hoo!

Getting Cricky Promotional Week - Day 5!!

Happy Thursday, everyone and welcome to Getting Cricky Promotional Week Day 5...our last day of promos before the U R SO SWEET Blog Hop tomorrow night!! Be sure to join us...the fun starts at 9:00 pm EST!

Most of you know I have been featuring the Owly Hoo stamp set this week! I love all the owly sentiments on there, but there are so many other fun mix and match words!
I tried to think really outside the box for this card...there are numbers on this set that are fun to use and I sometimes forget about them. All of the paper is from my current crush, My Mind's Eye. I punched circles and stamped the numbers, and then covered them with Glossy Accents. I am so mad at myself...I "broke" the number 2 as I was assembling the card :( I didn't have time to make another 2 and have the Glossy Accents dry, so I had to go with it. Ah well, sometimes crafting isn't perfect :) The cheerleader is from the All Sports Cricut cart. I cut her at 3 1/2" and attached the layers with foam tape for dimension. I used scissors to shred the edges of her pom poms. "You are" is from Owly Hoo, and the tag is a Tim Holtz die. "Really" is from the Billionaire Lite cart and "Great" is from Base Camp. I used my Gypsy to attache the shadows together.

Look at all the fabulous mix and match sentiments on this stamp set:
