Photoshop Techniques

Happy Wednesday!! I hope you are having a great week!! My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the horrible storms that hit on Sunday. Our tornado sirens went off, which meant spending the day in the basement, and the power blinked off for a bit but came right back on. We had strong winds and hail but were thankfully spared from damage.

This isn't really a crafty post today...well, it sorta is...photography can be art:) As if I needed any more distractions keeping me from my craft room, I have decided to relearn how to use Photoshop. I used to use the full version all the time, but the last few years, I've strictly used Photoshop Elements. It's great, but there are so many more things you can do with the full version. So I wanted to show you some of the techniques I've been practicing with :)

Just to warn you, this is a pretty picture-heavy post. And before I get to the Photoshop techniques, I wanted to share some with you my attempts at bokeh.

I've been wanting to try to photograph bokeh ever since I saw Missy's post at Quick Chick Designs. Any excuse to put up the Christmas tree early and I take it :) So the above is my first attempt at bokeh. Then on to shaped bokeh:

Isn't this fun??!! I used the smallest Spellbinders Classic Heart die to create the effect. Thank you Missy for the awesome tutorial and the inspiration!!

When you look closely at the lights, you can see the embossing from the die. Fun!!

Okay, now on to Photoshop CS6 Techniques. The first one I want to share is turning a photo into an IMPRESSIONIST PAINTING.

Next is the COLOR SPLASH technique:

And this one is by far my favorite!! Turning a photo into a 3D IMAGE.

Thank you for letting me share these with you today!! I know I need to get back to the craft room but I'm having so much fun relearning these techniques and snapping pictures :) Have a great day!!

Hi Lisa, So glad you survived the terrible storms. I wondered if they were near you. This has been a crazy winter so far, with who knows what to come. I really enjoyed reading about Photoshop, I wish I knew more, to help with my picture taking and the artistic side of the program. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Really neat images. Honestly, I never use Photoshop (as you can probably tell by my not so great photos) but I think I may play around with it this weekend. Thanks, Lisa!

Have a good evening!

My sweetest friend, I'm so glad you're safe and sound... weather's fury is something else. :( So many prayers and hugs for all who need them.

As for your post, it is spectacular. :o) Your photographs are phenomenal, Lisa! I love bokeh and your playtime with it is astounding. The other techniques just leave me speechless, honestly. Your color splashes are some of my favorites. I knew you'd pick up on everything easily and I have been proven right by this post! You are a natural at all creative endeavors, my talented friend. What I'd give to take such stunning interior Christmas tree shots. Inspiring work, as always. :o) I hope you have a night as beautiful as these images! :o)

I thought of your when I heard of the bad weather...wow, wicked storms! So glad you are okay!
I am saddened and heartbroken to hear of the families who lost their loved ones and homes. I couldn't imagine what they are going through. I can only pray they have the strength to get through the devastation~my thoughts are with those families.

I love your experiment with the photo shots. Wow, the difference is amazing! I would love to check into that someday-too much on my plate right now but definitely want to look into that someday!
Thanks for sharing Lisa!!
Have a great evening!

So glad you were spared any damages from that storm, Lisa! Thanks so much for sharing all of these amazing photos with us. I have become very "lazy" in my photography over the years, it's so easy to just grab the phone and snap a pic. I really need to put more time into capturing special moments and making them into greater photo memories! Have a great day today!!

Golly, I'm glad I popped over to say thanks for your visit & comment today. I hear you about Photoshop..I had sort of self taught myself in the older versions, but the one I have now, I've never really had time to sit & learn, except when I needed something on 'the fly'. Your post was so interesting, and I'm looking forward to hearing what you are learning (and the how-to) if you have time. I just read about Bokeh earlier in the week, had never heard the term. Looking forward to seeing a lot more here, and learning a lot too! Your photos were marvelous & loved how you restructured each one into a fascinating new picture. TFS & Hugs

First off, so glad to hear you are safe. Don't know if I could live somewhere where you have the threat of tornados multiple times a year!! We have earthquakes in CA which are not fun, but they are few and far between!!

Your pictures are as amazing as your craft projects are!! I think I like the Color Splash technique the best, but the #D is pretty amazing!! Have a safe and happy weekend :)
