Interactive Owl Card Tutorial

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I have my first of two tutorials ready to go. This one is from the Operation Owl Blog Hop this past weekend. I am going to show you how to make the interactive feature on the card: when you turn the lollipop, a new sentiment appears.

 I made my card a little bigger (6" x 6") so I could include all the elements.

 

SUPPLIES:

1. Gypsy (can use an x-acto knife or punches)
2. George and Basic Shapes (or another cart that has shape images)
3. Paper Cutter
4. X-acto knife
5. Paper (I used DCWV The Playtime Stack)
6. Stamps you want to use (I used K Andrew's Amazing You stamps)
7. Tape gun or glue
8. Foam dots
9. Foam tape
10. Corner rounder punch (optional)
11. Circle punch
12. Embellishments
1. Cricut Cuts
2. Ribbon
3. Gems/Bling

DIRECTIONS:

1. On your Gypsy, create a box that measures 5" x 5".
2. Insert a rectangle inside the box that measures 2" x 1/2" and is 1" from
    the top and centered in the middle. You may need to adjust the size of
    the rectangle to fit the stamps you want to use.
3. Center 1/2" below the rectangle a circle that measures 1/2".
4. Cut your image. It should look like this:

5. Attach the 5" x 5" square to the base of your card with foam tape. The
    foam tape is thinner than foam dots, which is why you want to use it.
6. With your x-acto knife, carefully cut out the rectangle and circle on the
    card base. You could do this with your Gypsy, too, but I wasn't sure where
    I wanted to position the 5" x 5" paper on my card base.
7. With your paper cutter (or Gypsy) cut a 3 1/2" square.

8. With a corner round punch, round the corners.

9. Place the 3 1/2" square behind the front of the card, centering it behind
    the 5" x 5" square.
10. You want to make sure that the 3 1/2" square does not show around the
      edges, which is why I used a corner rounder. Since the 5" x 5" paper is
      attached to the card base, the only edges that you have to worry about
      are the top and right side. (In the picture below, the 5" x 5" square hasn't
      been adhered to the card base yet. I just wanted to show you how to
      center the 3 1/2" square behind the 5" x 5" one.)

11. Punch or cut a circle that measures 3/4", enough to cover the round hole.
12. Attach a round foam dot to the back of the circle. I use the largest size of
      round foam dots, and you want to make sure it is thicker than the foam
      tape you used to adhere the 5" x 5" square to the card base.
13. Carefully holding tight to the 3 1/2" square flip the card over.
14. Attach the circle with foam through the round hole. This will be your
      turning mechanism.

15. Test your turning mechanism and make sure the back square does not
      show around the edges. Also, you don't want the hole in the 5" x 5"
      paper much bigger than your foam dot, just enough for it to turn. It if
      is too large, the back square might shift. If you use a small foam dot,
      you should adjust the size of the hole you cut into the 5" x 5" paper.
16. Line up your stamp in the box and stamp your sentiment. I flipped
      the card around and stamped upside down so the foam circle didn't
      get in the way.

17. Rotate the back square a quarter turn and stamp your next sentiment.

18. Continue until you have your four sentiments stamped.
19. Decorate card as desired.

NOTE: You may want your rectangle where the stamps show through in the center of the paper. You can move it where ever you want, as long as you make sure the back 3 1/2" square does not show around the edges when you rotate it.

I hope this was easy enough to understand. It would have been much easier making a video tutorial but again, I don't have a decent video camera.
