Scrapping4fun Challenges Guest Designer

Happy Thursday!! I'm so excited to be a guest designer for Scrapping4fun Challenges this week. The theme for Challenge #85 is Boy, For Dad, Masculine.

Masculine cards are very hard for me. I struggle if I can't use flowers and ribbons and bling. So, for my cards, I created mixed media Father's Day and birthday cards.

I started with heavyweight cardstock and covered it with sand texture paste for a grainy texture. Once it dried, I covered it with black gesso. Then I used Finnabair's Rust Paste set to create the rusted look.

The gears are a Memory Box die and I used the same technique as the background paper: sand texture paste, black gesso and Finnabair Rust Paste.

I'm totally addicted to this stuff!! I want to rust everything!!

Happy is a My Creative Time die, embossed with copper embossing powder. Birthday and Father's Day are also My Creative Time stamps.

Thanks to Rachelle and the Scrapping4fun Design Team for having me as a guest today!! I hope you will join in this weeks challenge!!

I have a couple of quick pictures to share with you today. This was the view from my kitchen window this morning!! It's not a good picture at all and it was taken through the screen, which you can kinda see, but I wanted to show you how many deer came for breakfast :) Most of them were pretty young. I wish I could have stepped onto the deck to take a clearer picture but they would all scatter quickly.

And I snapped this guy the other day, also not a great pic and also through the screen. I wonder if the top picture is his harem ;)

Thanks so much for stopping by :)

Male cards are so hard for me too. You made these so gorgeous! I love the rust too! Those cogs are fabulous! Amazing photos! I lost my entire back yard seeding to a family of deer once. I just sat there with my kids watching them. It was so beautiful!! Hugs, Robin

I'm right there with you on those guy cards! I always struggle, even when it's for my hubby or sons. This card, however, is the perfect guy card. Those gears look amazing! And the rust....fabulous!
What a wonderful photo - those deer are just beautiful. I can't believe they are grazing that close to your home. What an amazing sight!

I love your masculine card...with the coppery/rusty manly feel to it. A refreshing change from the flowers.:)
How lovely to have "friends" over for breakfast. :)

Such a different look to your style of beautiful feminine layers, but a totally great masculine card. Love the gears treatment and these look fab on that sandy textured background. Looks like beach sand with embedded gears washed up from the sea. Some fella will love this. Enjoyed your herd of deer and you got some sharp photos, even through the screen. That always messes me up too...and especially if I try to zoom. Yours look really nice. TFS & Hugs

WOW! For someone who says they struggle with masculine cards - WELL... You are right on Target with these! They look AWESOME! In fact very cool!!! LOVE the textures... I love the pictures of the deer as well... Makes me miss I'm old house in Monticello.... We lived right by the mountains and the deer would come eat the frozen apples off my trees... in fact... I never even cleaned up the drive way from the fallen apples because the deer would show up and eat them.... LOVE looking at them and driving thru the mountains to see them, & wild turkey, cows, Bob cats, Bears.... Yeah... I miss the beauty of it for sure! :) Big Hugs!!! Have a great weekend!

Beautiful gear card love the design, very masculine. We have the deer behind our home also, but we usually have 3- 5 and the coyotes have been out lately so the deer are pretty scarce right now. It is always ricky to get a good shot, because they are pretty skittish with noises even the click of a digi camera.

This is a great guy card. I love that rusted look and it is perfect for the gears. We rented a house in Nashville, IN over Thanksgiving and we had nine deer come into the back yard at dusk like this. It was the coolest thing to see. I'm so jealous that you get them right in your own back yard!

What a great way to awake on a cold morning. There's something about seeing nature in the raw that humbles us and yet makes us feel connected. Thanks for sharing these pics. What a fantastic idea for your masculine cards, Miss Mermaid! I LOVE THE TEXTURES YOU ACHIEVED! The recipients will be very pleased with the masculinity of your creations. Congrats on the GDT gig! I like the way you continued the metallic theme with the embossed sentiments. I'm always incredulous at how some people come up with designs - way beyond my thought processes - and yours is one of them, Lisa. Thanks for sharing your marvelous cards! xo
