Congratulations, Grad

Happy Monday!! I hope you had a wonderful weekend!! It's my turn to post on the Die-Versions blog and I have a couple of graduation cards to share with you using several Die-Versions dies. If you use the code lisa15 you'll receive 15% off your regular price Die-Versions order.

These cards are very different from my usual style, but I wanted them to be both unisex and flat enough that they would mail easily. I really struggle not using flowers and ribbons and bling!! I did add a touch of sparkle to the cap and diploma from the new Whispers Graduation Set. They were both popped up with foam for dimension. The square is a Whispers Stitched Nested Square, also popped up with foam. 2016 is from the Downhill Font set. Congratulations is from the Compliments Everyday set. The scalloped border is a Whispers Lacey Dots die (not currently in stock).

On a different note, I got a 150-600mm camera lens for Christmas and I've been practicing with it, capturing some of the springtime birds that have been visiting. The lens is super-heavy and it's hard to hold it steady to take shots. I really want to capture the hummingbirds but I haven't managed a great shot yet. It's been raining on and off for like a week, so most of these shots are taken through the glass.

This is the best I could get of the hummer. Unfortunately, you can see the reflection from the glass.

I had to add a shot of a Cardinal, the state bird of Indiana :) This is the male and...

the female. Sadly, I cut off her tail :(

Blue Jays are so beautiful but they are so noisy!! And they eat all of the food I leave for my outdoor cats.

The Eastern Bluebird is one of my favorite birds...not a great shot with the deck post in the way. I haven't been able to get another shot yet.

I'm guessing this is a female Gray Catbird since it looks like she's gathering materials to build her nest. Look at the size of that twig :)

This is a Northern Flicker...a medium sized woodpecker. His coloring is so beautiful!!

This is a Grosbeak....so pretty!! They stop by in the spring and don't stay long but I love when they visit. This is the male...

and the female. Not fair the male gets the pretty coloring!!

I was so excited when I saw the turkeys puffing and posturing!! Sadly, I couldn't get a decent shot through the window screens. I thought I'd try sneaking outside to get a better shot...

And while it is clearer, he (not sure what the correct term is) de-puffed and took off. One of my cats followed me and meow'ed the entire time so they heard us coming a mile away :) I hope to get some decent shots of the hummingbirds soon. There only a few right now and by the time I can heft the camera and spot them, they fly away :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!! Have a great week :)

Anything But Cute May Challenge - Celebrate Your Style

Happy Thursday!! Three posts in three days...that might be a record for me ;) I'm so excited for my first post with the Anything But Cute Design Team!! I have to warn you...this is a picture heavy post!!

As we celebrate our First Anniversary at Anything But Cute, we want you to celebrate what you do best...mixed media!! This is your chance to do it your way, in your favorite style...so pull out those inks and paints and show us what you're made of!! You can make anything you want, in any theme you want and any style you want, just as long as it has some mixed media products on it and no cute images. HAVE FUN!!

We have some special treats for you this month. Along with our design team projects, we have invited our Favorite Artists from last year to come and celebrate with us. You don't want to miss the incredible line up of inspiration they have provided for you!! We also have a wonderful line up of prizes from some amazing sponsors...lots of chances to win some goodies, so don't miss out!!

To celebrate my style, I created a mixed media, shabby chic canvas. For the background, I used one of my very favorite techniques - Andy Skinner's Mega Crackle (you can watch the video HERE).

I added texture paste through stencils in random areas for some added texture. This one is the Art Is stencil. The sentiment is from Dylusions. I stamped it with Jet Black Archival Ink and cut around each line. I then used a Black Distress Marker to outline the words.

The butterflies are Tim Holtz Butterfly Duo dies. I cut the bottom layer in heavyweight cardstock and then stamped a Darkroom Door Script stamp in Victorian Velvet Distress Ink and inked the edges as well. The top layer was cut with Lemoncraft paper and covered with Sparkle N Sprinkle Crystal Ice.

Among the Wild Orchid Crafts blooms are several dies, inked with Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint Distress ink: Memory Box Chloe Stem, Poppystamps Weeping Willow Branches, Sue Wilson Faux Quilled Leaves, Memory Box Tender Leaves, Poppystams Viola Leaves and Elizabeth Craft Curly Leaves.

The birds are Tim Holtz Paper Punch. They were covered with Wendy Vecchi Crackle Texture paste and then inked with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink. The fence is an Impression Obsession Beach Fence. It was stamped randomly with a Tim Holtz text stamp in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink for a distressed look. The grass is a Poppystams Grassland Border, inked with Shabby SHutters.

The flower and bee, and the sentiment on the bottom corner are Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs. I am entering this in the following challenges:

1) Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Stencil It (TCW Art Is Stencil)
2) Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Home Decor
3) Word Art Wednesday - Anything Goes
4) Pause, Dream Enjoy Linky - Anything Goes

Scrapy Land Challenge #41 - Anything Goes

Happy Wednesday!! I hope you are having a wonderful first week of May!! It's time for a new challenge at Scrapy Land and the theme is Anything Goes PLUS a brand of die that Scrapy Land carries...there are over 40 to choose from!! Play along and you could win a gift certificate to shop at Scrapy Land!!

I created two garden-themed cards using papers from Craft & You. The edges were inked with Tim Holtz Gathered Twigs  Distress Ink. Texture paste was applied through an "Art Is" stencil from The Crafters Workshop in random spots on the bottom layer.

The next layer is a Cheery Lynn French Pastry Doily die, followed by an Impression Obsession Arch and Trellis die.

Cheery Lynn Mini Fanciful Flourish Left and Mini Fanciful Flourish Right dies climb up the trellis and twines through the Impression Obsession Beach Fence. The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts. On the inside, I used Spellbinders Curved Borders One dies.

The sentiment banner is a Taylored Expression Banner Stacklet 1 die. The sentiments are from My Craft Spot (no longer in business). The gorgeous ribbons are from DL.ART.

The butterflies fluttering about are Impression Obsession Medium Butterfly dies covered in sugar coating. The dragonflies are from Impression Obsession's Cattails die set.

Now for my project...

I created a birthday gift box using Lemoncraft papers from the Neverending Summer stack. (Shhh...don't tell Jo, but I created a couple of cards that go with the box!! I'll keep with the theme of Anything But a Card for this post and share them at a later date ;)

I purchased a Bodhi wallet for my mom for Christmas and it came in this box. It's really sturdy and perfect to recycle. I was intrigued by the quote, so I did a little research on Yahoo and found this as the definition someone provided: "Nearly all of our behavior is driven by our 'passions' - a semi-technical Buddhist term that refers to impulses, delusions, ignorance, and other afflictive mental states. These states prevent us from seeing the truth of each moment and then responding to that truth with wisdom and compassion. Buddhist practice - the 'magic' of Buddhism - enables us to transform these 'passions,' which means to see them as empty of self-nature, and to become free of them." I really did hate to cover up the quote.

I inked the edges of the papers with Tim Holtz Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. A Cherry Lynn French Pastry Doily was cut in half and placed on the top and bottom of the lid. They were then covered with Wild Orchid Crafts flowers, Cherry Lynn Mini Fanciful Flourishes, Sue Wilson Mosaic Leaves and Memory Box Chloe Stems.

Texture paste was applied through a stencil...I am completely blanking on which one. The butterfly is a Memory Box Isabella and the top layer was covered with Sparkle N Sprinkle Crystal Ice.

The sentiment is from My Creative Time and the banner is from My Craft Spot (no longer in business).
