Song of the Sea Canvas

Happy Tuesday!! I hope you are having a wonderful last week of July!! I have a canvas to share with you that I've been working on for a month - no kidding. I sadly don't have the time to devote to the mixed media projects which I love. But I have to find time each month to participate in my sweet friend Pamellia of My Little Craft Things' Anything But Cute Challenges. And when I saw the theme this month that my sweet friend Samra of Paper Talk With Samra picked - Summer Romance, I knew I had to play along...two of my favorite things!!

I'm not sure I can remember all I did with this, but I'll try...if I miss anything, and you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask :) I started out adhering crumpled tissue paper to a canvas with Mod Podge. I then added cheesecloth to represent the waves of the sea.

I wanted there to be some sunshine on my canvas, so I used Wendy Vecchi Crackle Paste through a Tim Holtz Rays stencil. Once it dried, I used Sea Glass acrylic paint over the entire canvas, along with Dylusions Sprays in London Blue and Calypso Teal. I let it dry for a bit then used a baby wipe to remove some of the color. Then I used a toothbrush to remove the paint from the cracks, and to remove the tissue paper from the canvas so that texture would show. Inka-Gold Metallic Rub in Gold was dry-brushed over the rays for a subtle shimmer.

For the underwater portion of the canvas, I used several Tim Holtz products, including Mixed Media Thinlets, Spring Greenery Strips, and the seahorse from TH's Mini Sea & Sand. It was covered with Distress Inks in Mowed Grass, Mermaid Lagoon and Salty Ocean, and then covered with TH Distress Crackle Paint in Rock Candy. The edges were inked with Walnut. Once it dried, white acrylic paint was brushed into the cracks.

For the land section, sand was made using the technique Tim Holtz described in his July Tag of 2014: basically glossy accents, Utee Clear Embossing Powder, Distress Embossing Powder and Distress Glitter. The couple is an Impression Obsession Couple Sitting die on a Spellbinders D-Lites Garden Bench die. The couple was covered with Liquitex Thick Gel with Glass Beads. The fence is a Memory Box Weathered Fence Die.

I used a Crafter's Workshop Palm Tree Stencil with Glass Beads over plastic, fussy cut it, and then colored the back with Distress Inks in Gathered Twigs and Mowed Grass.

The sentiment was stamped onto tissue paper and then adhered with Mod Podge to the canvas.

I am entering this in the following challenges:

1) Anything But Cute #3: Summer Romance

2) Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - No Ordinary Paper (Tissue Paper)
3) DL.ART - July Linky
4) Little Scrap Pieces - Show It Off Saturday

Thanks so much for stopping by :)

The bat, ghost and spider are from My Craft Spot's Halloween Shapes die set. The spiderweb border beneath the ribbon is a My Craft Spot Fancy Edges Halloween die. The ribbon started out white. Little Scrap Pieces Fun Friday - May Flowers

Happy Friday!! I can't believe how fast this week went by. I hope you have fun plans for the weekend!! It's chilly and rainy here today...all part of the April showers that bring...May flowers. And that's the theme for this week's Fun Friday Challenge at Little Scrap Pieces. We want to see you use a flower on your project. Our sponsor this week is our super-talented and super-sweet design team sister Sherrie of Sherrie Scraps With Passion :)

Last week I created one side of a journal page for the April Showers page, so I thought I'd do the other side for May Flowers :)

The base is heavyweight watercolor paper from Strathmore. It was spritzed with Dylusions inks in Calypso Teal, Vibrant Turquoise, Fresh Lime and Cut Grass. A Crafter's Workshop Cosmic Swirls stencil was placed over the top and sprayed with London Blue Dylusions Inks. A CW Bricks stencil was placed on the bottom and spritzed with Postbox Red. The bricks were outlined with Derwent charcoal and then highlighted with white charcoal. The sun is a stamp from Beeswax, stamped with yellow acrylic paint.  The letters were cut with a Tim Holtz Wanted die from scrap watercolor paper. They were outlined with charcoal, as were the edges of the page. The flowers are a Dylusions Background Love stamp, colored in with Tim Holtz Waterbrushes filled with Dylusions inks, and then outlined with Sakura Gelly Roll pens in white and black. The girl is a Dylusions Annie stencil, colored in with black acrylic ink. She was stamped with the script stamp from the Tim Holtz Mini Ornates set in white acrylic ink. She was outlined with white and gray charcoal.

I am entering this in the following challenges:

Little Scrap Pieces Fun Friday - April Showers

Happy Friday!! I hope you are having a great week!! My nieces are still here so I haven't had a chance to visit your blogs, but I will be by on Sunday night when they leave. It's time for a Fun Friday Challenge at Little Scrap Pieces :) Our theme this week is "April Showers" - we want you to use an umbrella, cloud, rain boots...

For my project, I wanted to use an awesome new rain stencil from The Crafter's Workshop, so I created a journal page.

The watercolor paper was spritzed with water and then sprayed with Dylusions sprays in Cut Grass, Fresh Lime, Dirty Martini, Calypso Teal, Vibrant Turquoise and London Blue. A Darkroom Door script stamp was stamped with Ranger Aquamarine Archival Ink. Stamps from Paper Wings Productions' Art Textures stamp set were stamped with Jet Black Archival Ink. A toothbrush was dipped in white acrylic paint and flicked across the page. The raindrops are a Crafter's Workshop Rain stencil, sponged with white acrylic paint and outlined with a black Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen. The grass along the bottom is a Dylusions On the Edge stamp, colored in with Dylusions Cut Grass in a Tim Holtz Waterbrush. The border along the sides and top are from a Dylusions Further Around the Block set, colored in with a TH Waterbrush filled with Funky Fushia and a white Sakura Gelly Roll Pen. The edges of the page were outlined with a charcoal pencil.

April Showers was cut from a scrap piece of watercolor paper sprayed with Dylusions sprays in Squeezed Orange, Lemon Zest and Pure Sunshine. The letters are from TH's Wanted die and were scribbled with a white gelly roll pen.

The girl and umbrella are from Dylusions Ruby Rainbow stamp set. The umbrella was colored in with TH Distress Markers in Barn Door, Fired Brick, Dusty Concord and Walnut and a waterbrush. Ruby was colored with TH Distress Markers in Barn Door, Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, Peeled Paint, Broken China, Dusty Concord, a waterbrush and a white gelly roll pen. Her hair was colored in with a waterbrush filled with Dylusions Lemon Zest. She was outlined with charcoal and then white charcoal. The bird is from a Dylusions How Does Your Garden Grow set, colored in with a waterbrush filled with Dirty Martini. The sentiment is a Tim Holtz Good Thoughts stamp set, colored in with waterbrushes filled with Postbox Red and After Midnight, and a white gelly roll pen. It was outlined with white charcoal.

It's time for a Fun Friday Challenge at Little Scrap Pieces!! The theme this week is to Use a Handmade Embellishment. It can be a flower, stick pin, crinkle ribbon or some awesome skittles like I used from my sweet friend and design team sister, Carri of Doubleclick AKA Abusybee, who is sponsoring today's challenge!!

Since it's officially spring, I wanted my project to be springy, so I chose to use flowers :) The base of the card is heavyweight cardstock from Canvas Corp, followed by black cardstock from The Paper Studio. The next layer is heavyweight watercolor paper from Strathmore. It was spritzed with water, and then Dylusions Sprays in London Blue, Calypso Teal, Vibrant Turquoise and Fresh Lime. Charcoal was smudged along the edges.

The script stamp from the Tim Holtz Mini Ornates stamp set was randomly stamped with TH Broken China Distress Ink. The flowers are from the Dylusions How Does Your Garden Grow stamp set. They were stamped with Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black. The petals were brushed with a TH waterbrush to remove the background ink, and then filled in with TH waterbrushes filled with Dylusions Inks in Pure Sunshine, London Blue, Cut Grass, Vibrant Turquoise, Fresh Lime, Crushed Grape, Squeezed Orange, Postbox Red and Funky Fushia. The stems were created with a waterbrush filled with Dylusions Black Marble. The smaller of the flower stamps was stamped in the background with TH Antique Linen Distress Ink for a subtle effect. A white Sakura Gelly Roll pen was used to outline the flowers and add some interest. The centers are the gorgeous handmade skittles from Carri :) The banner is a Spellbinders Nested Pennant die, outlined with charcoal and the white Sakura pen and popped up with foam tape for dimension. My First Dylusions Spray Project and WINNER!!

Happy Sunday!! I hope you are having a fabulous weekend!! I've been playing with my new Dylusions Ink Sprays and I am in love!! They are so much fun!! The colors are so bright and vibrant!! I hope you don't get sick of seeing me use them because I foresee lots of inky projects in the near future :)

I'll try, but I don't think I can even explain how I did the background because most of it was just playing around with the sprays and stencils and stamps :) I will also include a list at the bottom of all the supplies used.

The paper is watercolor paper from Strathmore. The Dylusions sprays used are Squeezed Orange, Pure Sunshine, Lemon Zest, Postbox Red, Cherry Pie, Bubblegum Pink, Funky Fuchsia, Dirty Martini, Fresh Lime, White Linen and London Blue. A Cosmic Swirls stencil from The Crafter's Workshop was placed over the paper and sprayed with Postbox Red. Another stencil from TCW, Numbers, was placed on the corners and spritzed with water for a ghosting effect. A Dylusions Dotted Flowers stencil was placed along the top corner and spritzed with London Blue. A waterbrush was then used to color in parts of the flowers with different colors of the sprays. A TCW Mini Art Is stencil was placed along the bottom and then covered with Wendy Vecchi Embossing Paste. The Dylusions Dotted Flowers stencil was placed back over the original one and a few of the dots were covered with the embossing paste. Two stamps from the Tim Holtz Ultimate Grunge set were stamped with Peacock Feathers and Fired Brick Distress Inks. White Linen Spray was then flicked on the background for subtle spots. Black Soot was sponged along the edges and then the paper was adhered to cardboard painted black.

Dylusions Pondering Petunia was stamped with Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black and then colored with TH Distress Markers in Spiced Marmalade, Barn Door, Fired Brick, Tumbled Glass, Spun Sugar, Wild Honey, Dusty Concord, Mustard Seed, Bundled Sage, Antique Linen, Tattered Rose, Picket Fence and Faded Jeans. A Sakura Gelly Roll pen was used to outline Petunia and the flowers.

The sentiment, from TH's Just Thoughts stamp set, was stamped with Jet Black Archival Ink on TH Specialty Stamping Paper. The words were cut out and inked with Antique Linen and then Walnut Distress Ink along the sides. The arrows are from TH's The Journey stamp set. They were cut out, glued on and outlined with the white gelly roll pen.
